"My Time" – Anna Brooks Quintet
(Red Kite Records; RKRCD005)
A fine debut from a skilled saxophonist and composer. Supported here by a gifted young quintet, ‘My Time’ showcases brilliantly the sophisticated styling and dramatic flair of Anna Brooks rendered in this album’s smooth, melodic self-penned pieces.
An accomplished musician, Brooks began playing the saxophone at the age of twelve. Brooks studied as a classical saxophonist at the Birmingham Conservatoire during which time she had her first real experience of jazz and improvisation and her first opportunity to arrange music for an ensemble.
Discovering that she was more interested in jazz than classical music she joined and formed various jazz bands.
She has performed with John Mayer’s "Indo-Jazz Fusion’s" in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Denmark as well as playing with the Walsall Jazz Orchestra at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
Other credits include commissions by Birmingham Jazz to compose music for Carlton’s "First Cut" series and by the Jerwood Foundation to write for her own Jazz Quintet, performed as part of the Jerwood "Rising Star" series at the Cheltenham International Jazz Festival.
Since completing her first composition for jazz quintet in 2000, just before the arrival of her twins Max and Eddie, Anna has written all of the pieces for the Anna Brooks Quintet’s debut album, "My Time".
UK release: April 4th 05 through Proper Distribution.

About Red Kite
Red Kite sees the return of Martin Levan to studio recording after
a 20 year break in mainstream musicals racking up credits for sound
design on world-famous Really Useful Company productions including Cats,
Phantom Of The Opera, Sunset Boulevard and Starlight Express.
During the 1970s Levan worked on major album and singles releases
by a diversity of artists including Ralph McTell, Hot Chocolate,
Iron Maiden, John Martyn and Andrew Lloyd Webber, with whom
he was to forge a close-working relationship for the ensuing decade.
Levan’s new ventures – Red Kite Studio and Red Kite
Records - have opened doors for recording what its owner defines
as ‘performed music’. "We are recording artists working
primarily in the fields of jazz, roots, folk and classical
music," he says. "It’s great to be back in the studio
business."
