Ink Jet Conference 2015 – ITL show new UV LED tech and communicate best practice

Delegates at this year’s Ink Jet Conference (IJC) in Dusseldorf got some much-needed help negotiating the fast-developing world of UV LED curing.

Market pioneers Integration Technology Ltd (ITL) were on hand to showcase brand new developments in the sector. The company‘s Achim Herzog took to the seminar stage to explain what users needed to know when specifiying the technology.

ITL have been pioneering solutions in the sector for some years now and field a range of UV curing solutions (both arc and LED) for inkjet and digital applications.

Under its UV Integration brand, ITL showed the latest generation of its 2011-introduced Pincure system in the new Pincure 2 UV LED: a more powerful solution in a highly compact and lightweight package for high speed pinning between inkjet printheads, the system is just 20mm thick with integral all-air cooling and scalable for length of application to deliver a powerful yet ultra-compact proposition.

The proven optics of the original Pincure model – which completely eliminated the risk of UV light damage to the printhead nozzle plates – have also been enhanced.

Also on show was ITL’s new Solidcure 2 N full cure system for colour printing or heavy pinning of high density colours in high-speed applications including inkjet printing, roll to roll flexographic and offset printing, converting, and the curing of paints, lacquer and heavy coating films.

Slim and ultra-compact, again at just 20mm wide to slot into the tightest of machine spaces, the Solidcure 2 N is fully scalable in length and water-cooled to deliver class-leading dose and linearity of output to surpass other water-cooled products of this type.

Achim Herzog (above) was one of a number of industry and academic leaders speaking about the latest advances and future developments driving digital print at the event.

His remit to help delegates learn about the different specifications and power levels of UV LED devices for different application fields, and how to better assess the right product and performance for the requisite application, won over a full-house in attendance with many questions asked afterwards.

“We tried to keep this simple,” Achim relates. “The rate of change in product development terms is inevitably a challenge to end users and we felt the time had come to present an overview of what’s out there and when it should be used.

“My focus was on covering the basic questions: Is UV-LED the right choice or is UV-Arc any better for my application? Do I want an aircooled or a watercooled solution? Do I need pinning and if, what kind of pinning? What powerlevel do I need? How is my machine specification, design and general layout?“

Achim Herzog’s paper was one of 49 widely commented as “inspirational” and “stimulating” by visitors from over 25 countries numbering almost 400 in total – up by 285 new visitors against last year’s event.
