Sports and leisure cleaning - it's no game!
Sports and leisure centres linked to local schools make for challenging
environments in care and maintenance terms. Certainly, it's no game when
it comes to cleaning them.
Four such environments are being cleaned under a single contract for
Monmouthshire County Council by the Cardiff office of national
contractor Regent Cleaning.
The largest of these, Chepstow Leisure Centre typifies the demands faced
by its operations staff and Regent's cleaning professionals.

The Centre is within the grounds of Chepstow Comprehensive School and
offers a broad range of facilities including swimming pool, an advance
fitness suite, easyline circuit, saunas and steam room, ACTIV8 kids gym,
four-court multipurpose sports hall and four-court outdoor multi use
games area, full size Astro-Turf, aerobics studio, community rooms and
various outdoor pitches.
Open seven days a week, this centre is used by the school pupils every
weekday during term time.

It's a 0630 hours start for Chepstow's three Regent cleaners. One will
be working in wet changing areas, corridors and sports hall until 1030,
a second in the fitness suite, changing rooms, community rooms and dance
studio until 0930, and the third cleaning the building's offices in time
for the centre staff's arrival for work at 0830, the café/bar area and
downstairs toilets.
The first cleaner stays on site throughout the day, ensuring that all
public and circulation areas are kept clean in addition to routine deep
cleans of sauna, showers and steam rooms.
Chepstow is around 30 years old and subject to refurbishment recently
including the removal of most of its carpeting to be replaced by wood
and Altro flooring, bringing aesthetic and in cleaning terms practical
benefits to its users and those caring for it.
In addition to cleaning, Regent advises on application technologies and
solutions.

Chepstow's assistant operations manager, Helen Dymond singles out the
Cleanfix machines ("battery-powered, so no flex trips") and KaiVac
pressure washers used daily, as well as the easy-dispense Soludoz
chemicals system ("really effective and with environmental benefits",
she says.)
Regent was one of five cleaning companies asked to present
recommendations and costs to Monmouthshire County Council and won the
contract to clean its leisure centres in April 2009.

In addition to Chepstow, Regent has teams working at centres in Caldicot,
Abergavenny and Monmouth, each linked to its local comprehensive school.
It's clearly an advantage to have a cleaning operation that goes that
extra mile, bringing years of practical and managerial experience as
well as sound advice on sourcing the most practical, and cost-effective
solutions to apply to task.
Helen Dymond is particularly impressed with the strong rapport between
the centre's staff, its customers and Regent's personnel.
"While price is important, so is performance and Regent demonstrates a
real understanding of our needs with a good team effort all round."
