Regent extends cleaning contract for Cleanability award winner

A major further education provider and overall winner of the 2009/2010 Building Cleanability Awards has extended the contract to clean all five of its Birmingham area sites to national contractor Regent Cleaning

A subsidiary of European cleaning giant Samsic Group, Regent is one of the UK's fastest-growing contract cleaning providers fielding over 5000 employees via 10 regional offices to over 300 sites.

Coventry-based Regent has been cleaning Birmingham Metropolitan College's Matthew Boulton campus since 2006.

Now the further education specialist - winner of the 2009/2010 Building Cleanability Awards - has appointed its contractor to clean all its properties.
The newly-named College is the by-product of the merger of two of Birmingham's biggest providers of further education - Sutton Coldfield College and Matthew Boulton College - last summer.

Providing access to learning for 27,000 learners across all levels of study, the new institution will cater for an increasing number of 16-19-year-old learners seeking A-Levels, Vocational Qualifications, Diplomas and Apprenticeships.

It is also offer re-skilling and professional development opportunities for adult learners and employers, particularly through its tailored workplace based METtraining directorate.
A specialist in pharmacy and podiatry, the Matthew Boulton Campus hosts new medical laboratories and theatres which train apprentices as laboratory technicians and dental nurses. Its clinics treat over 5000 patients a year.

The College hosts state of the art laboratories in the Samsung Digital Service Academy, a facility established by the consumer electronics giant to provide employer support training.

Matthew Boulton is also at the forefront in the development of training for the cleaning sciences.

The three site Campus offers a range of accredited and bespoke programmes for all levels of employees in facilities and housing management. Programmes are either delivered within the College's fully equipped accommodation suite or off-site to suit individual need.

The Matthew Boulton Regent team cleans class rooms, work shops, offices, theatres, conference rooms, wash rooms, canteens, stairs, corridors and laboratories. Regent also covers all external areas and car parks.

Cleaners are on-site from 6.00am to 9.00am, leaving three day-janitors on site from 10.00am to 8.30pm. Manager and site supervisor are on site from 6am until 2pm daily.

The Regent Cleaning team of site manager, a supervisor, three day janitors and nearly 40 cleaners has been expanded to over 100 to clean Birmingham Metropolitan campuses located across the northside of Birmingham as well as in the city centre, Sutton Coldfield, Great Barr and Erdington, together with a dedicated Design Centre in Sutton Coldfield.

In addition to learning centres, environments to be cleaned include dedicated art and design centre, sports hall, gyms, theatre, TV and radio studios, hairdressing and beauty salons as well as recreational and student areas.

Birmingham Metropolitan College facility manager, John Starmer sums up: "In Regent we are pleased to have a contractor partner which makes an effort to share in our stated vision ‘to inspire learning and achieve excellence'".

"We have the most exacting standards to maintain when it comes to the cleanliness of our own premises and the fact is borne out not least by our winning the prestigious Cleanability award."
