Regent Cleaning cleans UK's largest blood centre
Regent Cleaning has further developed its contract to NHS Blood and
The Coventry-based contractor cleans 56 sites on behalf of NHS BT
including its premises at Filton, Bristol, home to one of the world's
largest blood processing centres.
A special health authority in the NHS, NHS BT is the organ donor
organisation for the UK and is responsible for matching and allocating
donated organs. Its remit also includes the provision of a reliable,
efficient supply of blood and associated services to the NHS through the
National Blood Service (NBS).
Completed in 2008, the £60m Filton site employs 550 staff testing close
to one million donations and processing 630,000 units of donated blood
Its manufacturing hub operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and
uses cutting-edge technology in blood filtration, conveyor and storage
In addition to the Bristol Institute of Transfusion Science, Filton is
home to the NHS Cord Blood Bank, the world's fourth largest
internationally accredited cord blood bank, currently storing over
13,500 donations of life-saving cord blood.
The British Bone Marrow Registry is also housed at Filton which holds
the details of more than 300,000 potential bone marrow donors who have
provided over 1,500 stem cell donations for patients in the UK and
around the world.
NHS BT Filton consists of two connected buildings that provide
approximately 5200m2 of workspace, including office accommodation,
laboratories, clean rooms and a large manufacturing area. The larger
open-plan working spaces allow for future reconfiguration to provide a
more flexible environment.
In addition to a team of seven cleaners under a site manager, Regent
also provides a staff of six porters at Filton. The project overall is
managed by Regent's Cardiff office.
Regent operates scheduled and deep cleaning to offices, circulation and
storage areas, library, toilets and related wet areas, and meeting
The company is also responsible for cleaning 'cold rooms', research
laboratories and related contamination areas, where a high standard of
cleanliness is an imperative.
Work undertaken includes floor, surface and window cleaning to a
colour-coded regime. Extensive scrubber-drying cleaning is undertaken
