REGENT NEWSRegent takes on London bus cleaning The newly-formed Transport division of national cleaning contractor Regent, has won the contract to clean buses operating from London operator Metroline's Edgware Garage Originally a subsidiary of the publicly owned London Buses Limited, Metroline was formed through a management and employee buy-out from London Transport in 1994. The company today is a wholly owned subsidiary of DelGro Corporation, based in Singapore. Metroline's principal business is the provision of bus services under contract to London Buses. Its 1998 acquisition of MTL London increased the number of vehicles to 870, operating through an area that now extends from North to West London and includes Central London and the City. In August 1998, Scottish Citylink was acquired from the National Express Group.
The company operates the latest in low-floor single and double-decker buses from eight garages in London. Regent's contract with Metroline constitutes cleaning, shunting and allocating 62 buses at Edgware between 1800 and 0200 hours, seven days a week. Since being awarded, the contract has been extended to include day cleaning of bus's on the turn around stand of one of Metroline's routes. Recently as a result of the excellent work being achieved at Edgware, Metroline have awarded Regent another Garage at Potters Bar, where there are approximately 140 buses based. Regent won the contracts on the basis of its providing quality at a competitive cost said Metroline commercial director Sean O'Shea. "We decided last year to review our cleaning objectives in an effort to obtain improved standards in quality in addition to cost of delivery," he said. "Re-tendering has resulted in our bringing in the expertise of Regent, which has a demonstrable management track-record in transport cleaning which can help us further improve the quality of our overall customer service." Regent sales director John Critchell joined Regent last year from ISS Transport Services, where he was operations director. Says John: "We are delighted to be working for Metroline and see the move as the first in a number of new business gains in the Transport sector. The market is set to grow and Regent is well placed to meet its needs."
