With a broad number of younger users, all learning environments
inevitably make special demands on service and support personnel.
again rose to challenges outside their day-to-day brief when a young
student at Birmingham Metropolitan College expressed concerns to her
tutor about inappropriate texts she was receiving on her 'phone.
"She did not want
her parents to find out, and asked if the police would have to tell
them what had been going on if she reported this," says Regent
officer Dennis Givans.
"The tutor didn't know the answer so came down to see us and ask for
the number of the police liaison officer for the college.
"I went up to have
a word with the student and within a couple of hours the problem was
Metropolitan College Tutor Chris Thompson added: "This was a
sensitive and difficult case and I can't thank Regent enough for
Dennis' help. I could not have done it on my own."
