Top marks for a clean school

A 200-pupil Hertfordshire primary school has rewarded cleaners from Regent Cleaning following a top-scoring report of its own.

Rylands School at Essex Road, Hoddesdon has been commended in its latest Ofsted report. The cleaning and maintenance of the school's 30 year old buildings was singled out by the school inspectors.

Now, the Department For Education and Skills (DFES) has made a £5,000 Achievement Award to the governors.

"The prize money was distributed equally amongst the school teaching staff, caterers and the Regent cleaners," says school headteacher Jan Bracey. "We are all delighted. This is a school where everyone tries to go that step further to make it that bit more special for the children and this accolade is a mark of their success."

Local authority Hertfordshire County Council recently re-appointed Regent to provide building cleaning services to 137 sites.
