VERCO furniture to landmark London venue
Conference and training furniture from VERCO is integral to refurbishment
at a London landmark building that marries contemporary form and function
to an historic architectural envelope.
The work is part of a revised interior design and fit-out of training and
conference facilities in the former Prudential building in Holborn Bars
near Chancery Lane on behalf of new owners Alternative Hotels Group (AHG).

This strikingly bold celebration of the Gothic was completed in 1897 as
part of the enlargement of adjoining premises that had been occupied
since 1879 by the Prudential Assurance Company. The company vacated the
building in 2002 since when it has served a range of commercial purposes
including housing a museum (about itself) and providing a film set for
innumerable TV period dramas and horror films.
The facility, part of the De Vere Venue network, now offers the latest
communications and conference facilities for up to 200 conference
delegates in its 34 meeting rooms, 9 Syndicate Rooms and buffet-style
restaurant.

Harriet Forde Design specified VERCO 2-smart chairs in a special fabric
to syndicate room and training rooms, complemented by walnut timber
effect MFC flip top tables and elliptical tables on polished silver
frames.
AHG's brief demanded a crisper, more contemporary look for the
newly-acquired venues, says designer Harriet Forde.
"One of the main challenges at Holborn Bars was managing different styles
for restaurant, training rooms reception, coffee and touchdown points
without detriment to the historic glazed tile and polished mahogany
surroundings."
The building offers top floor offices with modern interiors while those
lower are historic with original tiles and woodwork.
"The Verco products worked well in practical and aesthetic terms within
both modern and Victorian contexts," she adds.
Based on the v-smart, the 2-smart operator chair shares the same
mechanism allowing both action and relaxation, combining comfort and
support with unrestricted movement to improve user blood circulation and
combat muscle fatigue.

The chair adjusts to the shape of the user's back to provide optimum
spinal support and lumbar motion. Back and seat work independently for
unprecedented freedom of movement, even adjusting to suit the individual
needs of user's legs.
The 2-smart range constitutes 12 task, operator, conference and visitor
seating options.
Task and operator chairs are available in a choice of two seat widths,
with fixed or adjustable arms, on a five-star base in black, silver or
chrome finishes. Upholstered or mesh seat backs are available and the
range is offered in a wide choice of fabrics and colours.
